12:46 pm - My work in Mulberry Arts Studio, New Year's Day.....
|

That's right... you do indeed see my name listed there with everyone else. I'm going to have four pieces in the show...
The thing there is, I'm not entirely certain what four I want to have hanging... any suggestions?

My nephew, Cory Heuyard, did the photography for a friend of his to enter a contest to win a custom engraved guitar from AXL Guitars.
Cory's friend Jordan won the contest, and Cory's photography is now featured on the AXL website and will be in an upcoming print ad in Guitar World and Guitar Player magazines!
Here's his shot...

Nice job, dude!
The AXL Guitars webpage for the contest winners, where you can see the above photo in context, is located here.

3:45 pm - Emerging From Dormancy....
|

The caption refers more to myself than Troy, since I haven't posted anything in almost 2 months. I've been doing plenty of shooting, so I have lots of material to post... just haven't been able to do much online for awhile, I guess.
As for Count Troycula, I don't think he's EVER been dormant in his guise as one of the Noble Dead....

4:15 pm - Yesterday's Photo Post - Discrepencies and Mistakes....
|
It seems that there are some issues with my posted photo from yesterday and the information posted along with it.
For starters, various sources (including those that I linked in the text) give differing accounts of Huston Riley's unit at the time of the D-Day landings. Most sources give it as F Company, 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, which is the data I posted.... therefore, unless I hear otherwise from a reliable source (such as Huston Riley himself), I will assume this is correct.
Secondly, a major goof on my part.... I was given a tip by Photogebirg that the entrenching tool clearly visible on the left side of the pack in my photo is a GERMAN entrenching tool. Yikes! Ok, yeah... I'm a bloody doofus. :-)
Additionally, the point was raised by both myself and Barcrawler prior to the shoot and others after I posted the photo that the overall "feel" of the photo would be greatly enhanced if we could incorporate debris and the German landing craft obstacles into the shot, as seen in the background of the Robert Capa photo.
So, all things taken together, let's consider the shoot from yesterday as a test run.... it still stands and will remain posted as a tribute to the the D-Day veterans. However, at some later time, I will be redoing this shot for purposes of the "official" shot in the WW2 Combat Photography Project.
(As a side note, several other shots from yesterday came out spectacular, and may be incorporated into the WW2 CPP as shots not based on existing photos. Watch for those in future postings....)

9:48 pm - (WW2 CPP) D plus 65 years.....
|
Today is the 65th anniversary of the D-Day landings at Normandy, in northern France, which opened up World War II's Second Front in Europe and eventually led to the collapse of the German Reich.
This is also the opening of a project I've been planning for quite awhile now... the World War II Combat Photography Project, in which I will be taking photos from World War II and recreating them, as well as creating historically accurate shots not based on any existing photos of which I know. Photos that I post as part of this Project will have the initials WW2 CPP in the title of the post.
Since today is both the anniversary of D-Day and the beginning of this project, it seems only appropriate that the first shot posted is D-Day themed....
First, the original photo....

This photo was taken by combat photographer Robert Capa as he went ashore with the 16th Infantry Regiment of the 1st Infantry Division on Omaha Beach. The soldier in the surf in Capa's photo has recently been positively identified as PFC Huston Riley of F Company, 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. Hu Riley, now 87, whilst wounded recalled how Capa pulled him ashore.
Now, for today's shot....

Taken roughly 65 years and 7 hours (Universal Time) after the original. Playing the role of PFC Riley is William Rush, aka Barcrawler

7:53 pm - Let us witness the reincarnation of The Sun.......
|

A shot from early in the night at Shadowland Lancaster on May 2nd.
This looks like a Photoshop lens flare effect that I added to the photo, but it is indeed exactly what my camera captured. I think I know how it happened, but I'll have to experiment more with it at the next SL coming up on June 6th.
I actually got several shots that night that had starbursts at light sources..... I kinda like the effect.

Today is Armed Forces Day in the US, so I decided to arm Trinity, since she's become such a sudden force in the local modeling scene...

By the way, she's over on Model Mayhem now, so if you have a profile there, go say "hi" to her.
