5:25 pm - Sieg über Schnee!
|

This sort of reminded me of something from a German propaganda poster, so I went with the title auf Deutsch.
And it is indeed a Victory over Snow, because I was able to free my car from its icy prison this afternoon! To commemorate this, The Leader has declared that a special football game will be played today, to celebrate our glorious Victory over the reactionary forces of Old Man Winter.... let the games begin! Release the hounds! Beers and pizza all around!
If you haven't noticed, I enjoy being silly at times......

1:35 pm - A Note from Facebook.....
|
As you probably saw, I posted an art nude for the first time the other day to my blogs, bulletins, notes, etc.
This photo is currently hanging in an art gallery here in Lancaster, PA.... so, despite the nude nature of the photo, it came as somewhat of a shock to me when Facebook deleted the Note (Facebook's nearest equivalent to a blogging function) containing the photo "The Birth of The Storm Orphan....", especially since it happened a mere 3 hours after I posted it.
Now, being the stubborn guy that I am, I promptly reposted it. :-D
Granted, I left out the HTML code for bringing in the photo... I did, however, repost everything else from it, including the link to take the reader back to the original post on LiveJournal.
I also prefaced the posting of the simple description and link with a somewhat long rant regarding my opinion of Facebook's rather asinine decision. I now repost the Note from Facebook, entitled "The Birth of The Storm Orphan.... (repost)", in its entirety.....
=================================================================
The Birth of The Storm Orphan.... (repost)
So, it seems that the Prudity Gestapo decided to conduct a strike on my previously posted note, entitled "(NSFW) The Birth of The Storm Orphan....", which (if you didn't get to see it during the mere 3 hours that it was up) was a post of an art nude photo currently hanging in an art gallery here in Lancaster, PA.
Yes... those among us who are far greater and far wiser than we measly peasants felt the need to step in and save us from ourselves yet again....
(If you have trouble reading the text, right-click on the image and select "View Image".... or whatever you do for a Mac. :-)
This was the scene on my computer screen around 11pm last night... I will leave it up to you, the reader, to determine if the image entitled "The Birth of The Storm Orphan...." is hateful, threatening, obscene or advertising a product or service. :-/
Upon further investigation, I discovered this....

Take note of that 3rd section.... now, considering that the note was only in existence for 3 hours, I think it is safe to conclude that someone, somewhere, saw the posting, got their panties in a bunch and reported it. At which time, it was reviewed, and one of our betters determined that we needed to be coddled and sheltered from obviously "harmful matter" (twenty points to the first person who correctly identifies where I got that reference to "harmful matter"....)
(As a side note.... that 4th section? Yeah, you do know that about 1 in 6 people in East Germany were informants to the Stasi, the East German secret police? 'Nuf said....)
Yes, a piece of art hanging in an art gallery was deemed to be selling a product or service (snark).... or perhaps just otherwise offensive. Therefore, and I quote..... We have established that it violated these terms.
Well, Sieg... freakin'... Heil!
And completely infantile rubbish... the image was HTML image sourced, not uploaded to their servers or directly attached to the note, for one. For another, it's an image currently hanging in a freakin' art gallery, for cryin' out loud.
Well, whatever.... the point of this Note isn't really to rant (though I do so enjoy a good rant, as most of you know....).
The actual point is basically to repost the original Note, minus the photo, but plus the link to the post on LiveJournal where you may go see it (or not, as you see fit... consider this Robin Hood robbing power from "our betters" and giving it back to you).

2:32 pm - (WW2 CPP) The Agony at Gethsemane....
|

The fourth and final image from the Scott Church: Legacy Gallery Show here in Lancaster was another shot from the proof-of-concept shoot I did with Barcrawler (aka. Wiliiam Rush) for the World War II Combat Photography Project.
Later on, I may repost a Note that I posted exclusively to Facebook, dealing with a little incident that occurred there.... it's getting some interesting responses.
And tomorrow, I will endeavor to bring you hope and change.....

5:59 pm - Just a Reminder about "NSFW"....
|
Most of you should know this already, as it's a commonly used acronym on the Internet, but if you every see (NSFW) in the title of one of my posts, it means Not Safe For Work, and it's a warning not to look at the post while at work or if you are easily offended... the reason being that it is (in most cases) a posting of a photo of a "riskier" nature than is usually the case (note the quotes..... that means I tend not to agree with this mindset, but I digress.)
You'll see why I'm reminding you of this a little later this evening....

In case you couldn't make it to the Gallery Show on New Year's Day, here's one of the four images I have hanging there (yes, have rather than had.... the show is hanging the entire month of January)....

This is the one shot of the four which I previously posted here in my blog and elsewhere (almost a year ago at this point), so many of you have seen it already. I'll be posting the other three Gallery Show photos over the next several days.
If you haven't made it out to the Gallery yet to see all the fantastic work hanging there, go before it's gone....

5:17 pm - The Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come....
|

No Photoshopping here, except some slight noise reduction and adding my watermark and the black border....
I had a shoot here at The Apartment with a new model, Hope, and we were using black lights for the lighting... towards the end of the shoot, I asked her to lunge at the camera like a wild animal attacking. After the first set of 6 shots, I asked her to do it again... this was shot #4 of that second set of 6.
We both took one look at it and were like, "Uhhh... lets go to Bube's and have a beer... or ten".
On a completely unrelated topic, did I ever mention that my building is supposedly haunted?

6:48 pm - Motives of the Artist.....
|
"Why does an artist paint pictures, write symphonies, carve statues, tell stories? Is it because he finds joy and spiritual release in the mere doing of these things? Probably; but that is not the whole story. Is it because he makes a living after this fashion? No doubt; but there is still more to it than this.
Here is the third reason. It is a very significant reason, though it is generally disregarded. The artist persists in being an artist because he revels in the feeling that he may affect or influence people by his work. He does not demand approbation, but he does demand notice and response. The thought that he may through his work influence people and strike past their defenses to their secret emotions gives him a gratifying sense of power.
The Romantics conceived of the artist living in an ivory tower apart from men and affairs. It is barely possible that an artist could live and create in such sanitary isolation, but in order to get his human recompense for his labors, he must descend to the plane of the market place and note and rejoice in the effect of his works on other men. Nor is it enough for him to have his friends dutifully say "Ah!" He wants to have evidence of the effect of his works on the large, personally indifferent public. It is a matter of lesser importance to him whether the public is pleased, amused or angered at his works; but some sort of reaction he must have, and on this his ego nourishes itself."
"The truth is that there is a great deal of the showman in every artist who is worth his salt."

10:36 pm - (WW2 CPP) A Face For War....
|

I spent the last couple weeks going through my entire collection of shots looking for the 4 shots that I want to hang in the gallery show at Mulberry Arts Studio coming up on January 1st. This is one of the shots I decided not to run with for the show, so I'm posting it now.
It's a shot of William Rush (aka. Barcrawler) which I took this past June 6th during our proof-of-concept shoot for the World War II Combat Photography Project (WW2 CPP).
I thought the look on his face was too intense to not share it....

The thing there is, I'm not entirely certain what four I want to have hanging... any suggestions?
